Medicare Provider Phone Numbers by MAC

Checked against Medicare (MACs)’s own pages on October 18, 2026

Providers don’t call 1-800-MEDICARE (that line is for beneficiaries). For Part A and Part B claims and eligibility, call your Medicare Administrative Contractor (MAC). The MAC’s phone system asks for your NPI, PTAN and the last 5 digits of your Tax ID.

Have this ready before you call

  • NPI, PTAN and the last 5 digits of your Tax ID (the phone system asks for these)
  • The patient’s Medicare Beneficiary Identifier (MBI), name and date of birth
  • Date of service (for claim status)

Skip the call: self-service

Each MAC runs a free provider portal (for example Novitasphere, the Noridian Medicare Portal, NGSConnex, myCGS, the WPS Portal and SPOT) for eligibility and claim status, and the phone system answers many questions without a representative.[2]

Tips from billing teams

  • Palmetto GBA (Jurisdictions J and M) publishes its numbers on palmettogba.com; check there for your state.
  • MAC representatives refer providers to the phone system or the portal for claim status and eligibility, so start there.
  • Calling Medicare (MACs) many times a day? iAllo’s AI phone agent can dial, get through the phone menu and wait on hold, then handle the call or bring your teammate in when a person answers.
